Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Buffalo St.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team took on Buffalo St. on Friday, Sep. 13 at the University of Rochester. The Knights came out strong, winning the first two sets, but ultimately fell in five sets by a score of 22-25, 14-25, 25-11. 25-21, 15-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Geneseo offense started off with four kills in the first six points, and all four kills came from different players (Cory Elder, Maddi Gamberg, Maddy Baumann, and Carolyn Mack). The Knights opening set win was highlighted by a five-point with Mack serving, taking them from a 7-9 deficit to 12-9 lead, and the set-clinching kill by Baumann at 24-22.
  • Geneseo continued their momentum into the second set, with Alex Ayers capping off a 5-0 run to being the set on a service ace. The Knights never let Buffalo St. tie or take the lead for the entire set, and they took a 2-0 lead after the 25-14 win.
  • Unfortunately, the Bengals fought back and won the third and fourth sets to force the fifth and deciding set.
  • After falling behind 4-1 in the final set, the Knights put together a big six-point run to go ahead 7-4. Allie Driesen put together two aces for Geneseo to highlight the run. Buffalo St. was able to pull out the victory, however, after winning three-straight points to close out the match.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Baumann led the offense with 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage, while Ayla Pas'cal chipped in seven kills and a .467 hitting percentage.
  • Defensively, Zooey Gagnier tallied a match-high 22 digs, while Mack (14) and Ayers (10) reached double-digit digs as well.
  • Mack and Jenna Garvery led Geneseo in assists with 15 and 13, respectively.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will return to the University of Rochester tomorrow to take on both Amherst and the Yellowjackets, beginning at 11 a.m.
