Knights Fall to the Saints 1-0

Geneseo, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team fell to St. Lawrence, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon at College Stadium. The Knights dropped to 2-1-1 and now look forward to their first Empire 8 matchup against Hartwick on Saturday.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Junior forward Abby Dunnigan narrowly found the back of the net but was denied by the St. Lawrence goaltender in the 7th minute.  

  • The Saints broke the scoreless deadlock in the 28th minute with an outside-of-the-box- goal that sailed over Geneseo goalkeeper Mollie Collins and into the top corner.  

  • Junior forward Nadia Jaworowicz attempted a powerful shot that the Saints' keeper covered to maintain their lead in the 73rd minute.  

  • First-year forward Casey Holstein rattled the St. Lawrence crossbar in the 86th minute on an outside-of-the-box blast, narrowly missing.  

  • The Saints remained resilient and battled off the Knights to earn a 1-0 away victory.
      

QUICK FACTS: 

  • St. Lawrence outshot Geneseo 8-7 and had more shots on goal (3-2).  

  • The Knights haven't faced the Saints since 2019 and hold a 3-7-1 record all time.  

  • Geneseo's late push saw five team total corners attempted compared to three by the Saints.  

WHAT'S NEXT:  

The Geneseo Knights (2-1-1) will play their first Empire 8 Conference game at Hartwick College (2-1-1) on Saturday, September 14th, at 2 p.m.
