Field Hockey Beats Vassar 5-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Geneseo Field Hockey came out on top over Vassar College, beating them 5-0. Junior Sam Lewis recorded her first collegiate hattrick.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Geneseo started the game aggressively, outshooting Vassar 8-2. Sam Lewis notched the opening goal at 13:21, ending the first quarter up 1-0. 

  • Lewis was on a roll, securing the second goal of the game five minutes into the second quarter.  

  • Freshman Ava Harman closed out the half, scoring her first career goal at 26:36, with the assist from Emily Cortese.  

  • Fifteen seconds into the second half, Lewis found the back of the net off a great steal then pass from Harman, putting the Knights up 4-0. 

  • Ella Greico closed out the game, scoring the final goal at 45:56 and the Knights secured their second win of the season. 

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Lewis led the team in shots on goal and goals, with six shots and three goals.  

  • Lilly Spitz earned her second win in goal this season, tallying four saves. 

  • Geneseo last faced Vassar in 2019, losing 4-1. This win breaks the previous 4-game losing streak against the Brewers.
