SUNYAC CHAMPIONS!! Men's Lacrosse Earns Second-Straight SUNYAC Title With 20-10 Win Over Potsdam

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team won the 2024 SUNYAC Championship, defeating #4 Potsdam 20-10 on Saturday afternoon. This marks the program's fifth title overall, and second-consecutive SUNYAC Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights wasted no time finding the back of the net as senior Robert Boneillo scored ten seconds into the game, assisted by senior Cole Bollin.
  • Geneseo ended up going on a 7-0 run in the first quarter. Junior Riley Henselder, graduate student Brady Sullivan, Boneillo (2), Cole Bollin (2), and junior Jimmy Atkinson scored during the first. Graduate student William McCumiskey, junior Torin Bograd, and first-year Maddox Gorney picked up assists during the quarter.
  • The Bears and Knights exchanged goals in the second quarter with senior face-off specialist BB Syrop highlighting the action by scoring after winning the face-off at 5:44 in the second.
  • Sullivan extended the Knight's lead to six to start the second half off a pass from Robert Boniello at 13:25 in the third. The Bears responded and capitalized on two man-up opportunities following Sullivan's goal.
  • Atkinson's third goal of the game sparked a 6-0 run for the Knights at 5:53 in the third quarter, assisted by Boniello. Senior Kevin Mouton converted on a man-up opportunity to cap off the run, passed from Henselder.
  • Syrop capped off the Knights' victory with a goal scored with 5:03 left in the half. The game ended with a score of 20-10, and the Knights claimed back-to-back SUNYAC Championships.
QUICK FACTS: WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will watch the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m. to determine who they place in the first round.
