Softball Celebrates Senior Day With Doubleheader Split Against Oneonta

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team celebrated its senior day on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader against Oneonta. The Knights came away from the doubleheader with a 1-1 split after dropping game one 4-3 and winning game two 2-0. Geneseo finishes the regular season 21-17 overall and 14-4 in conference play to earn the No. 3 seed for the SUNYAC tournament. The Knights honored seniors Sydney Bolton, Rebecca Schwartz, and Lauren Gulick with a brief pre-game ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights got off to a hot start in game one, as an RBI infield single by Ray Schumacher in the bottom of the first scored Tori Guary and gave Geneseo the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Knights tacked on two more runs off an RBI single to center by Kaitlyn Schmitz.
  • The Red Dragons slowly fought their way back into the game, and then scored twice in the top of the seventh to earn the 4-3 game one victory.
  • Geneseo wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game two as well, with Audrey Minton smacking a two RBI double to left field that scored Brooke Fraas and Guary in the bottom of the first inning.
  • The two-run first inning proved to be all Geneseo needed, as Gabriella Petroski pitched a fantastic game and the Knights defense held strong for the 2-0 win.
QUICK FACTS:
