GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team celebrated its senior day on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader against Oneonta. The Knights came away from the doubleheader with a 1-1 split after dropping game one 4-3 and winning game two 2-0. Geneseo finishes the regular season 21-17 overall and 14-4 in conference play to earn the No. 3 seed for the SUNYAC tournament. The Knights honored seniors

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights got off to a hot start in game one, as an RBI infield single by Ray Schumacher in the bottom of the first scored Tori Guary and gave Geneseo the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Knights tacked on two more runs off an RBI single to center by Kaitlyn Schmitz.
- The Red Dragons slowly fought their way back into the game, and then scored twice in the top of the seventh to earn the 4-3 game one victory.
- Geneseo wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game two as well, with Audrey Minton smacking a two RBI double to left field that scored Brooke Fraas and Guary in the bottom of the first inning.
- The two-run first inning proved to be all Geneseo needed, as Gabriella Petroski pitched a fantastic game and the Knights defense held strong for the 2-0 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- Guary led the offense in game one, going 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Schmitz threw a complete game with just three earned runs on six hits.
- Minton finished game two 2-3 at the plate with both RBIs, while Petroski threw 6.2 innings with no runs allowed.Â
- Schmitz leads the team in ERA at 2.93, while Petroski improved to 3.69. At the plate, both Minton and Schmitz are batting over .400, with Minton leading the way at .424.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights earned the No. 3 seed for the postseason tournament and will travel to New Paltz for the postseason tournament beginning on Thursday, May 9.
