GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team traveled to St. John Fisher and came away with a 12-11 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Alaina Reina, who tallied a career-high in goals with eight, found the back of the net with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The Knights are now 8-3 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights took a quick 2-0 lead as Reina struck for two goals, both assisted by Maddie Brown, in the first four minutes of action. The Cardinals notched the game with a pair of goals midway through the opening frame, but Geneseo retook the lead as Rachel Dickinson found the back of the net with just under seven minutes remaining. Reina added another goal in the first quarter as the Knights went to the second up 4-3.
- The second quarter saw Geneseo's Ma. Brown score in the first minute off an assist from Maira Brennan before Fisher found the back of the net twice to tie the game at five. Goals from Reina and Molly Brown helped the Knights retake the lead and head to halftime up 7-5.
- Out of the break, both teams witnessed their scoring streaks slow down, as they each only tallied two goals in the third quarter. Reina recorded her 30th and 31st goals of the season in the frame.
- St. John Fisher closed their deficit less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, and eventually took an 11-10 lead with just under six minutes remaining. Another pair of scores off the stick of Reina in the final five minutes sealed the Knights' 12-11 victory. Her goal with five seconds remaining highlighted a game in which she tallied a career-high eight goals on only eight shots.
QUICK FACTS:
- Reina led the offense with eight goals and points, while Ma. Brown followed closely behind with five points of her own in the matchup.
- Sophia Lamendola and Tricia Curran led the squad in ground balls with three, while Reina recorded a team-high two caused turnovers against the Cardinals.
- Goaltender Emily DeJohn played all 60 minutes in goal against Fisher, tallying four saves and the win.
