Women's Lacrosse Ends Weekend With A Win

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team hosted the Plattsburgh Cardinals and came away with an emphatic 22-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Knights are now 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play on the season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights got off to a great start as Molly Brown found the back of the net less than 30 seconds into the game. Within the first five minutes, Emily Salanger and Rachel Dickinson each added a goal to put Geneseo up by three scores. Sophie Lyko, Maddie Brown, and Natalie Long put the Knights up by six before Dickinson and Salanger each tallied one more goal before the end of the first quarter. 
  • Molly Brown opened the second quarter with a score before Lyko, Megan Cook, Alaina Reina combined to put Geneseo up by 12 with three minutes left in the first half. In the final two minutes Cook and Molly Brown each scored another goal to give the Knights a 14-0 lead at halftime.
  • Up a player with nine minutes left in the third quarter, Cate Doxsee found the back of the net before Molly Brown tallied her fourth goal of the game. Dickinson tallied another score with an assist from Katie Rajowski just one minute before Rajowski recorded a goal of her own to put the Knights up by 18 points before the end of the third quarter. 
  • Geneseo continued rolling in the fourth period as Long, Molly Brown, Maddie Brown, and Lila Warner each contributed a goal to strengthen their advantage even more. Geneseo eventually took down Plattsburgh 22-0 after a strong display on defense to end the game. 
QUICK FACTS:
  • Molly Brown led the offense with five goals, while Rachel Dickinson added three, and five more players recorded two goals each for Geneseo.
  • Maddie Brown's six points ranked first for the Knights while Molly Brown (five) and Reina (four) were right behind.
  • Molly Brown and Sarah Ginnane led the squad in ground balls, while Reina recorded a team-high five caused turnovers against the Cardinals. 
  • Goaltenders Emily DeJohn and Holly Indelicato each played one half against Plattsburgh with Indelicato recording the only two saves for Geneseo. 
WHAT'S NEXT?
  • The Knights will travel to Rochester to face off against St. John Fisher on Tuesday, Apr. 9 at 4 PM.
