Women's Lacrosse Takes Win Against Oneonta During One Love Game

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team hosted the Oneonta Red Dragons and came away with a strong 19-8 victory on Friday afternoon. The Knights are now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out ready to score early as they took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Maddie Brown found the back of the net first for Geneseo, before Molly Brown scored a pair, Emily Salanger connected for a goal, and Alaina Reina tallied three scores, including one with ten seconds left to play in the opening period.
  • The second quarter saw the Red Dragons begin a comeback attempt as they scored two goals to bookend the quarter. The Knights, however, struck twice as well, via goals from Maira Brennan and Molly Brown, to keep their advantage to seven and went to halftime up 9-2.
  • Out of the break, the teams looked much more evenly matched as Reina and Molly Brown each added another goal to start the frame before the Red Dragons went on the attack. While Reina and Salanger each added another goal later in the quarter, Oneonta lessened their deficit to six through four more scores in the third.
  • Any chance of a Red Dragon comeback was completely thwarted in the fourth quarter as the Knights scored six straight goals to put the game out of reach. Molly Brown tallied two more goals while Reina, Maddie Brown, Rachel Dickinson, and Natalie Long also found the back of the net to seal Geneseo's 19-8 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Reina and Molly Brown led the offense with six goals each, while Maddie Brown tallied a team-high three assists.
  • Tricia Curran led the squad in both ground balls with six and caused turnovers with four.
  • Goaltenders Emily DeJohn and Holly Indelicato worked as a platoon against the Red Dragons. DeJohn recorded two saves through one quarter while Indelicato added another pair of saves through the final three frames.
WHAT'S NEXT?
  • The Knights will remain at home to take on the Plattsburgh Cardinals in another SUNYAC matchup on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 11 AM.
