Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak To Five

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team traveled to Potsdam and came away with a 21-4 victory over the Bears on Saturday afternoon. The Knights are now 10-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Alaina Reina got the Knights on the board less than one minute into the game with an unassisted goal at 14:02 in the first quarter. Emily Salanger, Molly Brown, and Reina each found the back of the net for Geneseo before the halfway point in the opening frame to give the squad a quick 4-0 lead. Reina struck for her third goal of the quarter before Natalie Long added to the scoring to put the Knight up 6-2 heading into the second period.
  • Geneseo kicked it into high gear in the second frame, putting nine goals on the board against the Bears. Caitlyn Korzeniewski started the push for the Knights before Postdam tallied their only goal of the second quarter. It was all Geneseo from there as Rachel Dickinson (2), Reina (2), Tricia Curran, Mo. Brown, and Korzenieweski all found the back of the net before the final minutes of the half. A goal by Salanger with 12 seconds remaining before halftime sealed Geneseo's 15-3 lead into the break.
  • The scoring slowed a bit after the half as Long, Dickinson, and Cook added the game's only goals in the third quarter. Dickinson and Cook were assisted by Maddie Brown on the final two scores, who helped put the team up by 15 with one quarter to play.
  • The Knights gave up one goal to start the final frame but the Bears couldn't work towards lessening the deficit as Katie Rajowski, Lila Warner, and Korzeniewski all extended Geneseo's lead. The Knights came away with a commanding 21-4 victory over Potsdam as the clock struck zero.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Mo. Brown led the offense with seven points while Reina finished right behind with six while also leading the squad in goals with five against the Bears. Mo. Brown's five assists in the game moved her to 87 in her career, good enough for second all-time as she surpasses Emily Haggerty '14.
  • Mo. Brown, Curran, and Holly Indelicato all led the squad in ground balls with three, while Mo. Brown and Curran recorded team-highs in caused turnovers with three each in the matchup.
  • Goaltenders Emily DeJohn and Holly Indelicato each played one half against Potsdam and combined for three saves in the win.
