Men's Lacrosse Earns Thrilling Overtime Victory Over Clarkson

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team faced a three-goal deficit in the second half against Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium, but the Knights were able to put together a comeback victory, 9-8, in overtime after Jimmy Atkinson's game-winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Less than a minute into the action, Ronnie Trebing found the back of the net off an assist from William McCumiskey to give the Knights an early edge. Later in the first quarter, Robert Boneillo and Riley Henselder scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give Geneseo a 3-2 lead heading to the second quarter.
  • The Golden Knights were able to lock up the Knights attack in the second 15 minutes, and took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
  • Following a quick goal from Clarkson in the third quarter, Geneseo found its rhythm and went on a tear. The Knights scored four unanswered goals and took a 7-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. Trebing and Jimmy Atkinson both scored twice during the run.
  • The Golden Knights answered back and took a one-goal lead midway through the fourth, but a goal from Jack Helrigel with just over five minutes left to play tied the game up and eventually sent it to overtime.
  • BB Syrop won the overtime faceoff for Geneseo with Torin Bograd scooping the ball up. After a timeout to set up the offense, Atkinson beat his defender and scored the game-winning goal.
