Softball Falls To Ithaca

GENESEO, N.Y.The SUNY Geneseo softball team fell in both games against Ithaca at home on Saturday afternoon by scores of 7-3 and 13-0. The Knights now sit at 3-13 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bombers came out hot in the first game as they rode a rally to score six runs in the opening frame.
  • The Knights were able to keep the game within six runs until the top of the 5th when a single to center field brought across another run for Ithaca.
  • Geneseo was able to get something going in the bottom of the sixth as Toi Guary, Rebecca Schwartz, and Kaitlyn Schmitz worked to load the bases before Ray Schumacher drove the two lead runners home via a single up the middle.
  • Audrey Minton followed up with a pinch-hit single to center to score Schmitz and bring the Knights within four runs.
  • Both teams were shutout in the seventh as Ithaca came out on top, 7-3, in game one.
  • In the second game, the Bombers were held to only one run in the first inning, but came out swinging in the second and brought seven runs home in the frame.
  • Ithaca added another run in the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead over the Knights.
  • A three-run home run off the bat of a Bomber, followed by an RBI double, gave the team a 13-run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
  • Despite a double off the bat of Gabriella Smith, the Knights were unable to score in the bottom of the inning as the second game came to a close with Ithaca on top, 13-0.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Amanda Audia pitched 5.2 innings of one-run ball in the first game, striking out six and walking one while only allowing five hits.
