CLERMONT, F.L. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team opened up its 2024 campaign in Florida on Saturday, March 9. The Knights earned a split of their first two games, defeating Edgewood, 6-1, but falling in a tightly contested game to Nebraska Wesleyan, 8-7.
QUICK FACTS:
- Tara Brochu highlighted the Knights win over Edgewood, going 2-3 at the plate with two doubles, and four RBIs. Brooke Fraas notched the other two RBIs in the game, with a single up the middle in the third inning.
- Rebecca Schwartz and Kaitlyn Schmitz each scored twice in the game, and combined for five hits. Gabriella Smith and Lauren Gulick each added a hit in the game as well.
- Schmitz threw a complete game on the mound, only allowing six hits and one run, while striking out five batters.
- Against Nebraska Wesleyan, Ray Schumacher posted three RBIs with two doubles in four at-bats. Schwartz added her to impressive day with one hit, one run, and two RBIs.
- Schmitz and Olivia Coons each added an RBI as well, while Hannah Olejniczak went 2-3 at the plate.

The Knights will return to the field on Sunday, March 10 for games against Babson and Hamilton at 9 and 11:15 a.m., respectively.
