CLERMONT, F.L. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team fell in a pair of closely contested games on Sunday afternoon in Florida. The Knights dropped the first game to Hamilton, 4-3, then nearly completed a big comeback against Babson and fell 13-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hamilton jumped out early against the Knights with a 3-0 lead through the first three innings. However, Geneseo bounced back in the fourth inning with two runs of their own.
- Hannah Recine drove in Brooke Fraas for the first run, then Tara Brochu scored the second after an error from the third baseman.
- The Knights tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning as freshman Ray Schumacher singled up the middle to score Fraas. Unfortunately, Hamilton was able to pull out the win in the bottom of the seventh.
- Against Babson, Geneseo found themselves 5-1 in the second inning. However, Rebecca Schwartz came up big at the plate for the Knights in the second and fourth inning to bring the score closer at 5-3.
- Later in the game with the Knights down 8-3, Bella Nadzan and Brooke Fraas each came up with a two RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to trail by just one run.
- Babson was able to pull away in the final two innings and escape the comeback attempt from the Knights.
QUICK FACTS:
- Against Hamilton, Gabriella Petroski and Sydney Bolton combined to throw the seven innings, and against Babson Mikayla Bucci, Kaitlyn Schmitz, Petroski, and Amanda Audia all saw time on the mound.
- Fraas had an impressive day at the plate, going 5-7 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Schumacher has had a strong start to her rookie campaign, hitting .500 through three games played with two doubles and four RBIs.

Geneseo will play Carroll and Mount St. Joseph on Monday evening at 4:15 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
