Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Brian Piendel

Geneseo Dominates Oswego 7-1

Geneseo, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo men's hockey team slid past Oswego State (14-7-1) on Saturday at home to maintain first place in the SUNYAC. The Ice Knights improved to a record of (18-4-0) and (11-2-0) in conference play with a dominant performance from Tyson Gilmour.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Peter Morgan moved around the Oswego defender and found Tyson Gilmour for a smooth finish at 10:56 into the first period to give the Ice Knights an early lead.
  • Alex Wilkins's breakout pass to Tyson Gilmour led to a goal by Alex Dameski. Dameski's shot sailed over the goaltender's right shoulder and into the net with 04:53 left in the period.
  • Tyson Gilmour picked up the puck, deked out two defenders, and found a wide-open Mitch Machlitt for a goal with 03:29 left in the period.
  • Peter Morgan converted a breakaway to extend the lead to four with 01:23 left in the first period. Alex Dameski and Sean Melso with assists on the play.
  • Gilmour added his second goal of the game after shifting through three defenders and placing the puck into the top of the net 3 minutes into the second. Peter Morgan with the assist.
  • Gilmour completed the hattrick with 07:13 left in the second period. Alex Wilkins and Alex Dameski with assists on the play.  
  • The Ice Knights capitalized on the powerplay with 14:11 left in the third. Peter Morgan passed to Alex Wilkins who assisted Luke Panchisin on the goal.
  • Oswego scored a late goal to make the final score 7-1.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Graduate student forward Tyson Gilmour picked up his first career hat trick through the first two periods. Gilmour also notched a career-high five points in the first two periods.
  • Junior forward Peter Morgan recorded four points in the game, extending his lead for the most points on the team.
  • Junior goaltender Adam Harris started in net and recorded 34 saves on 35 shots, adding another victory to his season total.

The SUNY Geneseo Ice Knights (18-4-0) will travel to Fredonia to take on the Blue Devils (5-14-1) in another SUNYAC clash on Friday, February 9th, at 7 PM.
