Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past RIT In Season Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team opened up its season with a 16-6 victory at RIT on Thursday afternoon. This marks the fourth-straight season the Knights have won their season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Tigers came out strong and were able to strike first, but Geneseo answered with back-to-back goals by Bella NiCastro and Alaina Reina within a minute of each other. Maddie Brown netted the third goal of the quarter for the Knights and they took a slim 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • Geneseo started off the second quarter on fire, scoring four unanswered goals to open up a 7-2 advantage. Reina, Brown, and Megan Cook tacked on three more goals before halftime to make it a seven-goal quarter for the Knights as they entered the second half with a 10-3 advantage.
  • RIT was able to fight back in the third quarter, earning a 2-2 tie in the period, but the Knights still held a commanding seven goal advantage heading to the final 15 minutes.
  • The Knights were able to put the game away in the fourth quarter, scoring four unanswered goals again as they closed out RIT by a score of 16-6.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Alaina Reina led the offense with eight points on four goals and four assists, while Maddie Brown posted a game-high seven goals.
  • Emily DeJohn earned the win in goal with four saves.
  • The Knights now hold a 21-2 record against the Tigers all-time.

Geneseo will have their home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. against Nazareth.
