Women's Lacrosse Wins Home Opener 20-6

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team had its home opener today, facing off against Nazareth. The Knights came out on top, winning 20-6, with both Emily Salanger and Megan Cook tallying their 100th career point during the game. Geneseo improved to 2-0 with the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nazareth struck first two minutes into the game, but the Knights were not fazed. Molly Brown answered back less than a minute later off an assist from Alaina Reina.
  • Geneseo went on to score five more goals in the first period. Maddie Brown, Emily Salanger and Caitlyn Korzeniewski each had one, and Rachel Dickinson had two.
  • Going into the second quarter, the Knights were up 6-2. Maddie Brown came out strong and scored three more, one unassisted, one from Reina, and the other off a pass from Korzeniewski. Salanger also put up a goal in the period to help Geneseo take a 10-2 advantage into halftime.
  • Salanger opened the third by scoring two more goals, with Megan Cook tallying both assists.
  • Korzeniewski tallied two more goals in the opening minutes of the fourth, making it 17-3.
  • Junior Sophia Lyko scored her first of the night with 10 minutes left. She came back again for her second goal with five minutes remaining to make in 19-4
  • Freshman attacker Natalie Long scored her first collegiate goal with one minute remaining as the Knights sealed the 20-6 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Emily Salanger had four goals and Megan Cook had three assists, putting both players above 100 career points.
  • Maddie Brown led the offense with four goals and three assists, improving her season total to 14 points. Joining Brown with 14 points is Alaina Reina, who put up two goals and four assists for six points.
  • Emily DeJohn played all 60 minutes in goal, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Geneseo is home against St. Lawrence University on Saturday, March 2nd at 3 PM.
