Men's Basketball Falls To #15 WPI

HARTFORD, C.T. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team fell to #15 WPI in the consolation matchup of the Trinity basketball tournament on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 79-48. The Knights record falls to 3-5 overall while WPI improves to 9-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Drew Morrow opened up the scoring for the Knights, scoring on the first two possessions of the game to give Geneseo a quick 4-0 lead. Baskets from Josh Garelle and Sebastian Pacheco on the following possessions helped them keep the lead at 8-5.
  • WPI was able to shift the momentum in their favor and go on a run to take control of the opening half, but a three from James Burton and a layup from Garelle helped the Knights put an end to Engineers run. Geneseo couldn't close the gap before halftime, and entered the second half trailing 53-28.
  • The Knights defense was able to stifle the WPI offense in the second half, holding them to just 26 points, but they couldn't mount the comeback needed to pull off the top-25 upset.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Garelle led the Knights in multiple categories with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the game.
  • Robert Pericolosi chipped in six points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Geneseo will return to Schrader Gym on Friday, Jan. 3 at 4 p.m. against RIT.
