BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team finished up regular season action on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Buffalo St. The Knights took on the Bengals and John Carroll, but were unable to pull out a win after falling in four and three sets, respectively. The Knights finish the season with a record of 9-17 and will turn their attention towards the Empire 8 playoffs, beginning on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo opened up their day on a high note, defeating Buffalo St. in the opening set, 25-22. Holding a slim lead at 20-18, the Knights rattled off three straight kills from Cory Elder, Carolyn Mack, and Kate Barba, which pushed the lead to five points and helped Geneseo secure the opening set victory.
- The Bengals were able to bounce back after the first set, and win the next three sets 25-15 25-21 and 25-12 to earn the four-set victory. The Knights put up a strong offensive performance in the third set, registering 13 kills and a .257 hitting percentage as a team.
- Geneseo got off to a slow start in the second match of the day against John Carroll, dropping the opening set 25-10. The Knights rallied in the second and third sets, tallying 12 and 15 kills in each set, respectively, but couldn't force the match into a fourth set falling 25-20 and 25-21.
QUICK FACTS:
- Barba led the offense in kills with 23 between the two matches while Maddy Baumann was second with 19 kills.
- Zooey Gagnier led the defensive effort with 33 digs, while Carolyn Mack dished out 31 assists.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Geneseo will head to St. John Fisher on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for a 6 p.m. match in the first round of the Empire 8 playoffs.
