Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short In Empire 8 Playoffs

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team fell short in the Empire 8 quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 12 as they traveled to St. John Fisher and fell in four sets, 25-15 23-25 25-9 25-16. The Knights finish out their season with a record of 9-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights offense struggled to get going in the opening set and couldn't find a way to shift the momentum in their favor after an early deficit. Geneseo was able to win four out of five points after trailing 19-11 behind kills from Carolyn Mack and Madison Gamberg, but the Cardinals were able to run the final five points of the set for the 25-15 win.
  • Geneseo won six of the first eight points to open up the second set, including four kills from as many different players (Gamberg, Cory Elder, Jenna Garvey and Maddy Baumann). Geneseo continued to control the second set, with Kate Barba leading the charge. Barba tallied six kills in the final 11 points won by the Knights to help them earn the 25-23 victory.
  • Unfortunately, Geneseo was unable to keep St. John Fisher at bay and ultimately fell in the final two sets, 25-9 and 25-16.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Barba led the offense with 10 kills, while Garvey and Mack dished out 12 and 11 assists, respectively.
  • Zooey Gagnier led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while McKenna Callari chipped in 12 of her own.
