Women's Soccer Advances to Empire 8 Semifials

GENESEO, N.Y.-The SUNY Geneseo Women's Soccer Team advanced past Houghton, 4-1, in the Empire 8 Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improved to (11-4-3) on the season and (9-1-2) in conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Junior forward Abby Foster got the Knights on the board in the 13th minute after converting a rebound on sophomore defender Katelyn Dena's shot. Geneseo continued to create scoring opportunities but went into the half up 1-0. 

  • Graduate student Juliette Frischmann tapped in a rebound from senior midfielder Lindsey Mathew's shot to give the Knights a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute.  

  • Frischman doubled down in the 70th minute with her second tally by placing the ball in the far corner away from the Houghton goalkeeper from a cross by Foster.  

  • Foster and Frischman linked up again in the 71st minute to complete the second-half hattrick. First-year forward Casey Holstein with the secondary assist on the play.  

  • Houghton found two late goals in the 77th and 88th minute but Geneseo's defense remained strong to secure the playoff victory.  

QUICK FACTS:  

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily McLouth started in net for the Knights and made two saves during the win.   

  • Juliette Frischmann recorded her second hat trick of the season, previously tallying three against SUNY Poly on October 26th. Frischmann now leads the E8 in goals this season.  

  • Abby Foster led the team with four points, a goal and two assists and now totals 23 points on the season.  

  • Geneseo outshot Houghton 21-7, with 12 reaching the net for the Knights and 4 for the Highlanders.
