Women's Soccer Dominates St. John Fisher; Set To Host Empire 8 Championships

GENESEO, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo Women's Soccer team took down St. John Fisher 2-0 in the Empire 8 Semi-Finals on Wednesday night. Abby Foster scored two goals to help the Knights advance to the Empire 8 Final on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior midfielder Lindsey Matthews shot a freekick from the top of the box saved by the St. John Fisher goalkeeper in the 26th minute. The ball bounced around the box, but the knights could not capitalize on the scoring attempt.

  • First-year forward Kirsten Shepherd had a breakaway attempt caught by the goalkeeper in the 37th minute. The Knights went into the half-tied at zero with the Cardinals.

  • The Knights broke the deadlock minutes out of the half. Fifth-year forward Juliette Frischmann sailed in a cross that found junior forward Abby Fosters foot and sailed into the back of the net in the 47th minute.

  • Fisher rattled the crossbar in the 58th minute from a pass attempt from a Cardinals free kick.

  • Geneseo extended their lead in the 64th minute on another goal from Foster. Fifth-year midfielder Lindsey Clar found Foster on a lobbed through pass slotted into the bottom right corner of the net. The Knights's defense held strong and was able to hold Fisher scoreless through 90 minutes.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Emily McLouth started in the net for the Knights and recorded five total saves.

  • Geneseo defeated St. John Fisher in both matchups this season 2-0.

  • The Knights will compete for a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday. Geneseo's last bid was in 2022 where they defeated Cortland 4-3 in penalty kicks in the SUNYAC Final to earn a trip to the tournament.
