ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team traveled to Hartwick on Friday, Nov. 1 and was unable to pull out the win, falling in four sets, 25-18 16-25 25-15 25-14. The defeat drops the Knights to 9-14 overall and 6-4 in Empire 8 action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The two teams traded points early in the opening set, with Geneseo pulling ahead by a slight margin at 9-7 after back-to-back kills from Kate Barba and Madison Gamberg. The Knights pulled ahead again at 13-10 following a pair of attacking errors by the Hawks, but a late run by Hartwick allowed them to escape with a first set victory.
- Geneseo bounced back in the second set, earning an impressive 25-16 victory by hitting .308 as an offense. With a 15-13 advantage in the set, Gamberg put down a kill for the Knights and then Barba followed it up with a service ace. Still holding the momentum, Geneseo went on to rattle off the final six points of the second set to earn the win, capped off by a block from Barba and Cory Elder.
- The Knights were unable to keep the offense rolling in the third and fourth sets, falling 25-15 and 25-14, respectively.
QUICK FACTS:
- Gamberg and Elder led the offense tallying eight and seven kills, respectively, with Elder posting a .263 hitting percentage on 19 swings.
- Jenna Garvey dished out 15 assists while also posting four kills, and Zooey Gagnier led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Geneseo continues their road trip and heads to Sage tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match in their Empire 8 regular season finale. The Knights will then head to Buffalo St. the next weekend for a tri-match before they begin their playoff run.
