Women's Volleyball Falls At Hartwick In Four Sets

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team traveled to Hartwick on Friday, Nov. 1 and was unable to pull out the win, falling in four sets, 25-18 16-25 25-15 25-14. The defeat drops the Knights to 9-14 overall and 6-4 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams traded points early in the opening set, with Geneseo pulling ahead by a slight margin at 9-7 after back-to-back kills from Kate Barba and Madison Gamberg. The Knights pulled ahead again at 13-10 following a pair of attacking errors by the Hawks, but a late run by Hartwick allowed them to escape with a first set victory.
  • Geneseo bounced back in the second set, earning an impressive 25-16 victory by hitting .308 as an offense. With a 15-13 advantage in the set, Gamberg put down a kill for the Knights and then Barba followed it up with a service ace. Still holding the momentum, Geneseo went on to rattle off the final six points of the second set to earn the win, capped off by a block from Barba and Cory Elder.
  • The Knights were unable to keep the offense rolling in the third and fourth sets, falling 25-15 and 25-14, respectively.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Gamberg and Elder led the offense tallying eight and seven kills, respectively, with Elder posting a .263 hitting percentage on 19 swings.
  • Jenna Garvey dished out 15 assists while also posting four kills, and Zooey Gagnier led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
