Geneseo Volleyball Falls in First Empire 8 Conference Match

GENESEO, N.Y.- The Geneseo Knights Women's Volleyball team lost to the Nazareth Flyers tonight 3-1. The Knights now sit at 3-10 overall and 0-1 in conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights had a slow start in set one, with Nazareth controlling the pace. Zooey Gagnier had two aces to try to bring the team back but ultimately fell 25-14.  

  • In set two, the Knights came out hot, going on a four-point run with Maddie Baumann leading the way with two kills. The teams went on to trade points through the match, but the Knights pushed and extended their lead 20-16. The Flyers fought back and ultimately came out on top, winning 27-25. 

  • Nazareth went on a run to start the third, putting Geneseo down 8-4. The Knights went on to tie it up 12-12. Kate Barba took control and notched two kills and an ace to help give the team the lead. The Knights continued their lead, with Cory elder getting two kills for herself and the Knights head into set four, winning 25-20. 

  • Geneseo could not get into a rhythm to start the fourth set, going down 12-6. Madison Gamberg had two huge kills, but they were not enough to cut the lead. The Flyers went up 19-14. Barba continued to be dominant on the court, notching another kill and ace, bringing the score to 23-20. Even though they fought hard, the Knights fell 25-20, finishing the match 3-1.  

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Maddie Baumann had an incredible match, tallying 10 kills. Kate Barba was close behind with 9.

The Knights head to St. John Fisher to compete in their next Empire 8 conference match.
