Women's Volleyball Nabs Fourth-Straight Empire 8 Win With 3-1 Victory At Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team earned its fourth-straight Empire 8 win on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Alfred and pulled out a 3-1 (25-23, 25-11, 23-25, 25-15) victory. The win improves the Knights record to 9-13 overall and 6-3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights found themselves trailing early in the opening set by a score of 12-8, but they were able to flip the momentum and win 11 of the next 13 points to snag a 19-14 advantage. Highlighting the run for Geneseo was Kate Barba and Madison Gamberg, who both registered back-to-back kills. Kills by Maddy Baumann and Cory Elder capped off the first set and 25-23 victory.
  • Geneseo cruised to a second set win by a score of 25-11, with strong serving playing a factor as the Knights tallied four aces compared to none from the Saxons.
  • Alfred's offense was able to step up in the third set as they registered a match-high 15 kills in the set. Geneseo continued to battle throughout the set as a kill from Gamberg saved one match point for the Knights and brought the score to 23-24, but the Saxons were able to close out the set and force a fourth set.
  • With the score tied at 7-7 in the fourth set, Geneseo went on a big run, winning 15 of the next 19 points for a 22-11 lead. A pair of kills from both Cory Elder and Gamberg highlighted the Knights push to close out the match, while Baumann tallied kills to win the 24th and 25th points for Geneseo.
