Volleyball Falls To Rochester In Four Sets

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Volleyball team took on a tough non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 23 as they battled the University of Rochester in Schrader Gym. The Knights pushed the Yellowjackets to four sets, but couldn't come out on top as their record moves to 7-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights were able to put together multiple runs in the first set to keep Rochester on their heels, with Madison Gamberg tallying a kill and then an ace to go up 10-8 early, then later in the set back-to-back kills from Gamberg and Cole tied the set at 18-18. However, the Yellowjackets were able to pull away late and take the opening set 25-22.
  • Geneseo came out hot to open up set two, going ahead 4-1 behind Zooey Gagnier at the service as she tallied two aces. Unfortunately, Rochester was able to gain the momentum back and ended up earning a 25-14 second set victory.
  • The Knights continued to play tough in the third set, and following a late run by Rochester to take a 25-24 lead for a match point, Geneseo was able to rattle off three-straight points with kills from Maddy Baumann and Cory Elder.
  • The 27-25 third set victory forced the match into a fourth set, and the Knights came out on fire with a 14-7 lead. However, the Yellowjackets were able to regain control once again and pull away for a 25-22 win.
