Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Topples Houghton, 6-2

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team traveled to Houghton on Wednesday, Oct. 23 and pulled out a dominant offensive performance en route to a 6-2 victory. The Knights tallied four first half goals to help improve their record to 9-3-3 overall and 7-0-2 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Riley Griffin got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net just six minutes into the action off an assist by Abby Dunnigan. Less than 20 minutes later, Abby Foster scored off a pass from Lanna Wandy to make it 2-0 Geneseo.
  • After Houghton tacked on a goal of their own, Casey Holstein and Nadia Jaworowicz scored back-to-back goals in the final six minutes of the half to make it a 4-1 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Despite an early second half goal from the Highlanders, Geneseo was able to close out the game on a high note Foster and Holstein recording their second goals of the game in the final 10 minutes for the 6-2 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Foster is now tied for the team lead in goals this season with five, while Holstein moves into second with four.
  • Mollie Collins tallied three saves in goal to earn her ninth win of the season.
  • Holstein, Dunnigan, Wandy, Lauren DeMura, and Lindsey Clar all tallied assists in the win.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will host SUNY Poly on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. The game will also mark senior day for the women's soccer program.
