Joe Vogt Leads Men's Soccer to 1-0 Win

KEUKA, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo Men's Soccer Team took down Keuka College, 1-0, in an away conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. Senior captain Joe Vogt's 66th-minute goal was enough to bolster the Knights to a 4-2-3 record overall and 3-0-1 in Empire 8 play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Senior midfielder Stefen Nikolic rattled the crossbar in the 24th minute from a free kick outside the Keuka box.  

  • Senior defender Eric Famularo headed the ball just over the net from a Geneseo corner kick in the 29th minute.  

  • The Knights came close to scoring out of halftime. First-year forward Carraig Jones got his head on a cross from senior midfielder Caden Brunken, over the net.  

  • Senior defender Joe Vogt shook free from a defender and got his head onto the ball, placing it into the bottom left corner of the net in the 66th minute. Senior midfielder Vasion Sinjari provided the assist from a corner kick.  

  • The Knights' defense remained strong, holding onto a 1-0 away conference victory.  

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Senior Vincent Maronski started in net for Knights and recorded two saves during the game.  

  • The Knights earned 13 corners throughout the game, converting on one. The Keuka Wolves were held to zero.  

  • Geneseo outshot Keuka, 21-3, producing seven shots on target through the 90 minutes.

Geneseo (4-2-3) will host Utica University (1-3-5) on Saturday, October 5th, at 1 p.m. in another Empire 8 Conference matchup.
