Men's Soccer Tops Utica 3-0

GENESEO, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo Men's Soccer Team secured a home Empire 8 victory against Utica University (1-3-6) on Saturday afternoon, 3-0. Stefan Nikolic, Eric Famularo and Kyle Arraiano all helped the Knights improve to (5-2-3) overall and (4-0-1) in conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • First-year midfielder Ali Shabani sailed a shot over the crossbar in 29th minute, just missing the net.  

  • Senior midfielder Stefen Nikolic danced around three defenders and buried the ball into the top right corner of the net in the 34th minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.   

  • Geneseo was dominant in the air during the game. Senior midfielder Vasion Sinjari found senior defender Eric Famularo on a corner kick. Famularo found the bottom left corner of the net in the 55th minute to extend the lead.  

  • The Knights attempted a shot from a freekick outside the box in the 80th minute, saved by the Utica goalkeeper.  

  • Sophomore midfielder Owen Burke found senior forward Kyle Arraiano in the box to put the final touch on the game in the 88th minute.  

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Nikolic leads the Knights in points accumulated (10), goals scored (4), and shots on goal (23).  

  • Senior goalkeeper Vincent Maronski started in net for Geneseo and recorded one save.  

  • Geneseo has a record of 4-1-0 against the Pioneers, last matching up in 1995.

Geneseo (5-2-3) will host the RIT Tigers (4-5) on Wednesday, October 9th, at 4 p.m. at College Stadium.
