Mens Soccer Draws with Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo Men's Soccer Team drew even with Elmira (3-6-4) on Saturday afternoon, 1-1. The Knights moved to (7-2-4) on the season and (4-0-2) in Empire 8 Conference Play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Senior captain Joe Vogt produced a shot on target in the 18th minute, but was pushed away by the Elmira goalkeeper.  

  • Senior defender Benjamin Sanchez sailed the ball over the opposition's net from a left-footed shot in the 30th minute.  

  • Elmira took advantage of a turnover deep in the Knight's half to take a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.  

  • Senior goalkeeper Vincent Maronksi denied a freekick attempt by the Soaring Eagles in the 52nd minute.   

  • The Knights opted for a "short" corner kick in the 54th minute, causing chaos in front of the net. First-year forward Carraig Jones picked up the ball and it found the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1.  Neither team could find a game-winner and the match ended squared at one.  

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Geneseo outshot Elmira 17-13 while recording 10 shots on target.  

  • Freshman Carrig Jones scored his first collegiate goal today against Elmira.

  • Vincent Maronski started in net for the Knights and recorded five saves in 90 minutes of play.

Geneseo (7-4-2) will take on the Nazareth Golden Flyers (7-2-2) in Rochester on Wednesday, October 16th, at 3 p.m.
