GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team took down the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils 65-43 on Tuesday night, their first home game back in Schrader Gym in a month. The Knights now sit at 8-4 overall and 3-2 in SUNYAC play this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights' offense got on a hot streak to start the game as they scored 13 unanswered points against the Blue Devils to take a 15-2 lead. Geneseo's defense didn't allow Fredonia to score for nearly eight minutes as they caused four turnovers and dominated the from behind the arc, only allowing the Blue Devils to go 1-8 from three-point range in the quarter.
- Geneseo took a 15-4 lead into the second frame and continued to take advantage of opportunities on both sides of the ball. Their defense held their opponents to only a 25% field goal percentage and caused three turnovers while the offense headed into halftime on the tail of a last second three pointer by graduate guard Hannah Stockman.
- Coming out of the break with a 28-14 lead, the Knights saw their lead slip to six by the end of the third quarter. Multiple shots from freshman forward Audrey Hintz as well as a driving layup and two successful free throws from senior forward Kerry Dennin kept Geneseo in the lead with ten minutes remaining in regulation.
- The fourth quarter saw Geneseo turn their woes around as the team scored eleven unanswered points to open the frame. Stockman hit two three pointers early to set the stage for the dominant period in which the Knights pulled away and outscored Fredonia 24-8 to seal their 65-43 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Stockman led the Knights in scoring with 14 points, as Dennin added another 12 while also leading the squad with 12 rebounds.
- Junior guard Mackenzie Reigle posted a leading four assists in the game.
- As a team, the Knights went 44% from the field, while holding the Blue Devils to 28% from the field and 17% from behind the arc.
