Men's Basketball Holds Off Fredonia For 79-75 Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball picked up a big SUNYAC victory on Tuesday evening, defeating Fredonia 79-75 in Schrader Gym. The victory improves the Knights to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights offense got off to a balanced attack, with the first four baskets coming from four different starters: Sebastian Pacheco, Josh Garelle, Cole Kattan, and Michael Gentile. Six minutes into the game, both teams were battling for control with the score tied at 8-8.
  • The back-and-forth play continued throughout the first half, but shots from Drew Morrow and Justin Yearwood down the stretch helped give the Knights a slim 31-30 advantage heading to the second half.
  • Gentile got things started in the second half for Geneseo by scoring on their opening possession, but the Blue Devils bounced back and took a two-point lead at 37-35. The Knights quickly rebounded however, with Jackson Casey and Kattan knocking down three-pointers on back-to-back possessions.
  • Geneseo went on to lead by as many as 14 points in the second half, and held off a late comeback attempt from Fredonia to secure the 79-75 victory.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Justin Yearwood led the offense with 16 points on 5-10 shooting from the field. Joining Yearwood in double-digit points was Pacheco (15), Garelle (14), and Kattan (12).
  • Robert Pericolosi and Kattan led the team in rebounding with nine each.
  • Geneseo's offense was very efficient in the second half, shooting 64.29 percent from the field.
