Women's Basketball Topples Potsdam, 69-60, For Ninth Straight Win

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team hosted the Potsdam Bears and secured a 69-60 win on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the Knights' ninth straight win and they now sit at 15-4 overall and 10-2 in SUNYAC play this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A seven-point run by the Knights towards the beginning of the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the matchup as Geneseo's play on both sides of the ball gave them a 15-12 lead going into the second frame. The Knights forced six turnovers and scored seven points as a result in the first quarter.
  • Geneseo pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Potsdam 16-7 before the half. A second-chance effort on the first play of the quarter by senior forward Kerry Dennin put the Knights up by five as another five turnovers caused by Geneseo made sure to stifle the Bears to end the half.
  • An early three-point shot by sophomore guard Maggie McGrane put the Knights up by 13 in the third. The Bears were able to lessen their deficit to seven towards the end of the frame, but late layups by senior guard Kelly McLaughlin and freshman forward Kristin Suydam kept Geneseo in the lead and sent them to the final quarter up 46-39.
  • Potsdam's comeback attempt brought them back to within five in the fourth quarter but a completed and-one opportunity by Dennin, late free throws, and a three-pointer by McGrane in the final minute sealed Geneseo's 69-60 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Dennin led the Knights in scoring with 22 points while Suydam and McGrane added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Senior guard Kiley Snow added a team-leading 12 rebounds while junior guard Mackenzie Reigle put up a team-high in assists with six.
  • This victory marks the Knights' 22nd consecutive win against Potsdam.
