Women's Basketball Rolls Past Buffalo St., 79-49

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team returned home to take on Buffalo State on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights took down the Bengals 79-49 for their fifth straight victory and now sit at 11-4 overall and 6-2 in SUNYAC play this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights opened up the first quarter against the Bengals with an almost immediate layup by graduate guard Hannah Stockman. The frame was highlighted with runs by both sides with Buffalo State scoring eleven straight points to take a 16-4 lead over Geneseo. The Knights would go on to score eight straight points of their own to finish out the quarter down by five.
  • The second quarter saw Geneseo rebound completely and take the lead for the first time since just over two minutes into the game. Jumpers from junior guard Mackenzie Reigle and senior forward Kerry Dennin turned the tide as the Knights then went on a 16-point run. Geneseo's defense didn't allow the Bengals to score for nearly five minutes while senior guard Kiley Snow hit back-to-back three-pointers and guards Brooke Woodard (senior) and Maggie McGrane (sophomore) contributed points, as well.
  • Coming out of the half with a 36-29 lead, Geneseo pulled away in the third quarter in large part due to another scoring run. This time around, the Knights put up 15 straight points including another three-pointer from Snow along with multiple layups by freshman forward Audrey Hintz
  • Geneseo put the finishing touches on their solid performance in the fourth quarter as they outscored Buffalo State 20-11 in the final frame. Late contributions on offense from sophomore guard Eva Elliott, graduate forward Madison Hoyt, and freshman guard Kathleen Birmingham, along with the defense's five steals, sealed the 79-49 victory over the Bengals.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Snow led the Knights in scoring with 20 points, with Dennin and McGrane adding ten points each.
  • Dennin added a team-leading 14 rebounds while Reigle led the squad in both assists and steals with six apiece.
  • This victory marks the Knights' 19th consecutive win against Buffalo State.
