Women's Volleyball Drops Two At Franklin & Marshall Tournament

LANCASTER, P.A. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team was unable to leave their season-opening tournament with a win, as they fell to Franklin and Marshall and Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Against the Diplomats, Geneseo got off to a strong start as they took a 6-5 lead early behind a service ace from Allie Driesen, a kill from Tori Tripp, and a solo block from Madison Baumann. Julia Wallace kept the lead for the Knights at 9-8 with a kill, but Franklin and Marshall found its momentum and ended up with a 25-14 first set win.
  • After dropping the second set, the Knights were ready to mount a comeback and led 9-4 early in the third set. Later in the set with the score tied at 20-20, the Diplomats were able to pull away and secure the 3-0 sweep.
  • Against the Tartans, Geneseo dropped the opening set but quickly responded in the second set with a 25-21 victory. Leading 24-21, Driesen fed Sommer Madigan for the set-clinching kill.
  • Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't keep the momentum going and fell in the final two sets.

QUICK FACTS

  • Madison Gamberg and Tripp led the Knights offensively with 11 kills each on the day. Cecilia Dignan totaled 13 digs in each match to lead the defense.
