GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team claimed their first SUNYAC victory of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 13. They defeated Fredonia State 8-1, improving Geneseo's record to 3-1 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Geneseo's doubles teams of Natalie Pipes, Rory Tobin, and Elena DeRiso with Talia Wutz, each won 8-3 at first and third doubles, respectively. Katie Kujawa and Samantha Rava won at second doubles 8-1.
• The Knight's singles players dominated. Rory Tobin won 6-0 6-1 at second singles. Samantha Rava won 6-0 6-2 at third singles, and Katie Kujawa won 6-4 6-4 fourth singles. Natalie Pipes won at first singles 6-2 6-2 at first singles and Talia Wutz pulled out the final win at sixth singles 6-3 6-4.
• Fredonia snuck out only one singles victory, winning 6-1 and 6-1 at fifth singles.

COACHES CORNER
"Our team faced a tremendous amount of adversity," said head coach Alan Heverly. "We started the match minus two starters, and another player suffered an injury in pre-match practice. Elena and Talia went right to work and got Geneseo a doubles point, despite Elena's injury! The entire team gathered together and got to he job done. All the players can be proud of their efforts tonight"

Geneseo will play at the St. Lawrence Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 16, and Sunday, Sept. 17, in Canton, NY, both at 9am.
