Softball Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep over Potsdam

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team capped off regular season play with a bang, as they celebrated senior day with a sweep over Potsdam. The pair of wins improves Geneseo to 21-16-1 and 12-6 in SUNYAC play to secure the No. 3 seed for the postseason tournament. The Knights honored seniors Audrey Minton, Elizabeth Eberhardt, Samantha Martz, Mattie Woodard, Olivia Fazio, Leah VanDerwarker, Anna Johnston, and Iris Kahris with a brief pre-game ceremony.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights were dominant in the opening game right from the start, with Kaitlyn Schmitz drilling an RBI triple to open up the scoring and then a ground out from Brooke Fraas brought her home for an early 2-0 advantage.
  • Geneseo continued to tack on runs, while Elizabeth Eberhardt and the Knights only allowed two hits in the game to keep the Bears off the scoreboard. A two-run home run from Leah VanDerwarker highlighted the offensive play down the stretch as the Knights cruised to an 8-0 win in five innings.
  • Geneseo continued to be hot at the plate in game two, dropping an impressive 14 runs, including nine in the first two innings. Mattie Woodard, Sydney Bolton, and Eberhardt combined to throw five innings on the mound for the Knights in the 14-4 victory.
QUICK FACTS
  • Schmitz was on fire at the plate, going 4-6 on the day with five RBIs. Geneseo had six players record at least one RBI in the opening game.
  • Eberhardt earned her 11th win of the season in the first game, striking out six batters and only allowing two hits
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights earned the No. 4 seed for the SUNYAC tournament and will take on Buffalo St. in the opening round at New Paltz on Thursday, May 11.
