GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team advanced to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship game after defeating Oswego, 15-9, in the semifinal matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights never held the lead in the first quarter as they trailed 1-0 and 2-1 against the Lakers. Freshman Alaina Reina started the scoring off for the Knights with the lone goal.
- With multiple lead changes in the second quarter, Molly Brown assisted Emily Salanger on back-to-back goals to put Geneseo up 6-4 to end the first half.
- Salanger started up the scoring in the second half and Oswego responded with two goals in a row to cut Geneseo's lead to one goal at 7-6. The Knights then gained significant momentum scoring seven consecutive goals late in the third quarter and early fourth quarter.
- Oswego went on to score four straight goals in the fourth quarter, but the Geneseo lead was too large to recover from and the Knights concluded their semifinal win.
QUICK FACTS
- Molly Brown led Geneseo offensively with nine points on three goals and six assists. Emily Salanger chipped in a team high five goals, which were each assisted by Brown.
- Tricia Curran dominated on the defensive end with an impressive eight ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Maggie Rosaschi got the win in goal, playing the entire game and making four saves.
- The Knights will return to the SUNYAC Championship game, program's ninth appearance all-time.
