Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Six-Game Win Streak Comes to an End for Women's Lacrosse With 11-9 Defeat

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team took their first loss at home today against the St. John Fisher Cardinals, 11-9. The defeat snapped a six-game win streak for the Knights and dropped their record to 7-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cardinals came out unstoppable in the first quarter scoring five straight goals against the Knights.
  • Junior Molly Brown was able to finally put the Knights on the scoreboard at the 12:42 minute mark in the second quarter with a free position shot. The Cardinals did not back down as they continued to be a threat offensively, while Brown notched another one with under four minutes left in the half to keep it at five-goal deficit heading into the final 30 minutes.
  • The third quarter got busy as Brown once again started it up for Geneseo. Alaina Reina, Maira Brennan and Reegan Vorgang joined Brown as they each picked up a goal, but still trailed 10-6 headed into the final quarter.
  • The Geneseo defense began finding its rhythm in the fourth by only letting in one goal. Despite the offensive efforts from the Knights, it wasn't enough to edge out the Cardinals, as they fell 11-9 at home.

QUICK FACTS

  • Molly Brown and Alaina Reina led the Geneseo offense with three goals each.
  • Geneseo was able to win the ground ball game as they picked up 15 to St. John Fishers 11.
  • Graduate student Maggie Rosaschi held tough for the Knights in goal with eight saves.
