Women's Lacrosse Bounces Back with 17-6 Win over Oneonta

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team earned their fifth consecutive SUNYAC conference win against Oneonta on Friday afternoon, with a score of 16-7. The Knights improved to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Megan Cook wasted no time getting the Knights on the board as she netted the first goal of the game just two minutes into play. Maira Brennan added in an unassisted man down goal to put Geneseo up by two.
  • The Red Dragons were able to tie the score at the end of the first quarter and scored within the first minute of the second quarter to take the lead. 
  • Geneseo and Oneonta traded goals throughout the second quarter. Sophia Lamendola found Megan Cook for a nice finish to give the Knights a 6-5 advantage and some momentum going into the second half.
  • The Knights took over in the third quarter outscoring the Red Dragons five goals to one; three of the goals scored by sophomore Molly Brown.
  • Five consecutive goals in the fourth quarter secured the win for the Knights, with the final score being 16-7.

  • Brown's eight points led the offensive effort with five goals and three assists, while Megan Cook tallied six points with five goals and one assist.
  • Junior Caitlyn Korzeniewski tacked on a team high five assists and junior Emily Salanger led the Knights with a total of six draw controls.
  • Maggie Rosaschi played all 60 minutes in goal and finished with 6 saves.
  •  Geneseo has now won 12 of the last 13 matchups against the Red Dragons.

Geneseo will take on the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers Wednesday, April 12, at College Stadium for a non-conference matchup at 4 pm.
