Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 12-6 Win, Finishes SUNYAC Play Undefeated

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team capped off their regular season play by defeating Oneonta, 12-6, on senior day. The Knights victory improved their record to 13-4 overall, and a perfect 7-0 in SUNYAC play. Geneseo honored seniors, William McCumiskey, Christian Marcello, Jr., Reese Gerlach, Liam Kassl, Brady Sullivan, Sean Grace, Kevin Leon, Mark Pav, Jason DeCoteau, Kevin Ehli, Spencer Frank, and Kenny Hannaford with a short pre-game ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo wasted no time taking command of the game, as they scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter of play. Jimmy Atkinson led the charge, tallying the final four goals including one with just a second on the clock before the period ended.
  • Oneonta was able to settle down the Knights attack in the second quarter, but still trailed 6-1 entering the second half.
  • The Red Dragons were able to give Geneseo a second half scare, racking up four-straight goals to make it a one-score game at 7-6. However, the Knights responded and tallied five goals in the final 11 minutes of action to close out the 12-6 victory.
QUICK FACTS
  • Senior goalkeeper Mark Pav tallied his 500th career save in the game, tallying 14 to earn his 11th win of the season. His 500 career saves moves him to fifth all-time in program history.
  • Atkinson led the offensive effort, tallying six points on five goals and one assist, while Christian Marcello, Jr. added four points of his own.
  • The Knights tied the program record for wins in a season, with 13, and hold a 7-3 advantage over Oneonta in the last 10 matchups.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights earned the top seed for the SUNYAC tournament, and will host the semifinals at College Stadium on Wednesday, May 3.
