Women's Lacrosse secures No. 2 Seed with 19-2 Win over Fredonia

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team won their final regular season SUNYAC conference game against Fredonia on Wednesday night with a score of 19-2. The Knights finished the regular season with a record of 12-4 and 8-1 in conference play to get the No. 2 seed for the postseason.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Molly Brown wasted no time for the Knights scoring the first goal 34 seconds into the game. Two additional goals from Maira Brennan and Emily Salanger helped put the team up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • Alaina Reina put up three goals in a row for Geneseo in the second quarter and with three minutes remaining in the first half Fredonia was able to respond and get on the board. 
  • With a substantial lead going into the second half Caitlyn Korzeniewski kept the momentum going and started off the scoring, and then the Knights controlled the fourth quarter with goals from Sophie Lyko, Bella Nicastro, and Cate Doxsee.

QUICK FACTS

  • Molly Brown led the Geneseo offense with nine points on five goals and four assists. Aliana Reina added three goals and three assists herself and a total of 11 different Knights scored in the contest.
  • Meg Seeley conducted the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • The Knights scored 11 consecutive goals before the Blue Devils were able to respond.

Geneseo will host a SUNYAC semifinal game on Wednesday, May 3 at College Stadium.
