Softball Earns a Pair of Five Inning Victories over Oswego

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team picked up a sweep of Oswego in SUNYAC action on Friday, April 21 at Vic Raschi Field. The two, five-inning, victories improved the Knights record to 15-10-1 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

GAME 1: GENESEO 10, OSWEGO 0
  • The Knights wasted no time taking the lead, as Oliva Fazio picked up a two RBI single with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the first inning. After Fazio's single, Samantha Martz caught the defense sleeping and stole home to make it 3-0.
  • Geneseo then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning, running the score to 10-0. Highlighting the seven-run inning was a triple from freshman Brooke Fraas and a two RBI single from Leah VanDerwarker.
  • Elizabeth Eberhardt and the Knights defense were dominant, as Eberhardt threw all five innings and only allowed three hits.

GAME 2: GENESEO 13, OSWEGO 5
  • It was a fast start for Geneseo in the second game as well, putting up four runs on the Lakers. Kaitlyn Schmitz drove in the first run with a double, and then Fraas picked up a two RBI single to make it 3-0 before Lauren Gulick drove in the fourth run.
  • The Lakers were able to get their bats going, and quickly cut the score to a one-run ballgame at 4-3 in the second inning. Later in the game, Oswego was able to stay within striking distance at a score of 6-4, but Geneseo went on to break it open in the bottom of the third.
  • Leading 9-4 after three innings, the Knights were able to continue to put the pressure on the Lakers defense and add four more runs in the final two innings to secure the 13-5 victory.
