Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls at Ithaca in Double Overtime

ITHACA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the 2023 season, as they dropped a double overtime decision at Ithaca College, 13-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior attackers William McCuminskey and Brady Sullivan got the Knights offense going to an early 2-0 start to the game. Following Sullivan's goal, the Bombers seemed to find their rhythm by scoring three goals in a row to put them ahead of the Knights 3-2 heading into the second quarter.
  • Ithaca continued to mount their comeback as they came out firing in the second frame. As three more goals took the Bombers lead to 6-2, Geneseo did not have any answers until Senior Reese Gerlach pushed them to their third goal in a man up situation. Brady Sullivan and Joe Luconte added to Gerlach's efforts with another goal each, but Ithaca was able to pick up one more to push the lead to 7-5 as they headed into the second half.
  • Out of halftime, the Bombers were looking to create some score separation from the Knights as they scored two goals straight away. Christain Marcello, Jr. and Brady Sullivan took over the 3rd quarter for the Knights as they put together 3 goals combined, holding the quarter to an even 3-3 run for both teams.
  • Senior goalie Mark Pav and the Geneseo defense stepped up during the fourth quarter and let the offense give the Geneseo the upper hand. At the 9:22 minute mark, Jack Helrigel stepped up for the Knights, punching their 11th goal, and giving the Knights their first lead of the game since the beginning of the first quarter, 11-10.
  • Ithaca had no answers for four straight goals by the Knights until there was 2:42 on the clock, where they brought it to a one point game. With 11 seconds left, the Bombers tied it up and pushed the game into overtime.
  • After a scoreless first overtime period, Ithaca scored with 2:33 left on the clock in the second overtime period as the shot clock expired, taking the win at home.
