Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 21-2 Victory over Potsdam

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse celebrated Senior Day with a dominant win over Potsdam, 21-2, Saturday afternoon in their first SUNYAC matchup of the year. The home win brings the Knights to 3-2 on the season. Geneseo celebrated their class of 2023 with a short post-game ceremony, honoring Maira Brennan, Alexis Reino, Tori Cacioppo, Caroline Fitzgerald, Meg Seeley, Lindsay Merenda, Maggie Rosaschi, and Grace Perry.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights got off to a quick start with junior Emily Salanger recording a goal within the first minute of action. Goals from freshman Alaina Reina, another from Salanger, and juniors Caitlyn Korzeniewski, Reegan Vorgang, and Megan Cook put the team up 6-1 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • A free-position goal by senior Maira Brennan on top of Salanger's third score put the team up by seven with ten minutes left in the first half. Geneseo outscored their opponents 4-1 the rest of the way and took a 12-2 lead into halftime. 
  • Another four goals were added by the Knights in the third with Salanger and Cook each tallying one and Vorgang recording two more while the defense held the Bears scoreless in the period. 
  • The fourth quarter opened with Geneseo up by 15 before freshman Cate Doxsee and sophomore Maddie Ugine quickly tallied their first goals of the season. Another goal by Cook along with one by sophomore Molly Brown closed out the 21-2 victory over Potsdam.  
QUICK FACTS
  • Geneseo had nine different goal scorers in the game, while Salanger and Vorgang led the team with four goals each. Cook and Reina each added another three scores for the Knights
  • Brown led the team in assists with five while also causing two turnovers. 
  • Maggie Roasaschi tallied one save during the game to earn the win in goal.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights will travel to Buffalo State on Wednesday, March 29 to take on the Bengals in a 4 P.M. start.
