Men's Lacrosse Explodes for Nine Fourth Quarter Goals in 18-6 Win over Alfred

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team earned their fifth win of the season today at College Stadium, 18-6, against Alfred University. The victory improved the Knights record to 5-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Saxons were quick to jump on the board at the 12:22 minute mark. After a very slow start from the Knights, Jimmy Atkinson was able to tie it up later on in the quarter, and then score another one to pull away with the lead at 2-1 headed into the second quarter.
  • Christian Marcello wasted no time at the start of the second, by scoring one early. Alfred was able to pull within one headed into the final 5 minutes of the 2nd, but goals by Spencer Frank, Jimmy Atkinson and Brady Sullivan solidified a two-goal advantage for the Knights heading into the second half.
  • Senior goalkeeper Mark Pav and the Geneseo defense locked up during the 3rd quarter by keeping the Alfred offense quiet and only allowing one goal. The offense did their part as well by extending the lead to 9-5.
  • The fourth quarter was completely dominated by the Knights. Starting with Brady Sullivan's goal at the 14:02 minute mark, the Knights kept it going by scoring nine unanswered goals. Goals from Robert Boneillo, Casey Fortunato, Christian Marcello, Jr., Boneillo again, Riley Henselder, Jack Helrigel, Cole Bollin, and Kevin Mouton, respectively, brought the final score to 18-6.

QUICK FACTS

  • Atkinson led the offensive effort with five goals, while Sullivan trailed behind with three and Marcello and Boniello added two each.
