Softball Falls to Case Western and Babson

Haven, Fl. - Geneseo fell to both Case Western Reserve University and Babson College during The Spring Games, on Tuesday, Mar. 14. The Knights fell to 3-5 on the season after the two losses.

GAME 1 - Case Western Reserve 5, Geneseo 0
  • The Spartans got on the board first by putting together a rally in the second inning that scored three off of a solo homerun and a single that brought home another two runs.
  • CWRU added another run in the third inning on an RBI single to second to make the score 4-0 before a groundout drove a runner in to extend the team's lead even farther in the top of the fifth.
  • The Knights were unable to get anything going with only three baserunners getting into scoring position during the game.
  • Geneseo fell to Case Western Reserve 5-0 in their second shutout loss of the season.
GAME 2 - Babson 6, Geneseo 5
  • Geneseo got a rally going in the top of the first, loading the bases with only one out but could not bring in any runs to take the lead.
  • Babson erupted in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an RBI double, single, and two-run home run to go up 4-0 early.
  • The Knights' deficit was eventually brought down to two runs in the top of the fifth when infielders junior Rebecca Schwartz and freshman Brooke Fraas were driven in by a two-RBI double from outfielder Olivia Fazio
  • The Beavers didn't take long to respond, however, and scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-2 lead.
  • With their backs against the wall, Geneseo scored three in the top of the seventh as sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Schmitz hit a three-run home run to bring Fraas and Schwartz home and get the team within one run of the Beavers.
  • The Knights were unable to complete the comeback and fell to Babson 6-5.
