GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team picked up a crucial conference victory on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Potsdam, 74-70. The victory improved the Knights to 10-11 overall and 7-7 in SUNYAC play as their playoff push got one step closer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After jumping ahead 7-2, Geneseo struggled to keep its momentum going and Potsdam was able to take a 21-16 lead halfway through the first half.
- The Knights were able to regroup behind some strong defense and aggressive offensive play, as they went on a 18-5 run to take an eight-point lead. The Bears drained a jump shot near the end of the half to make it a six-point game heading to the locker rooms.
- In the first four minutes of the second half, Potsdam was able to steal the momentum and take a one-point lead at 41-40. Back-to-back baskets from Cole Kattan got the Knights back into the lead at 45-41 and Geneseo never relinquished the lead for the rest of the game.
- Kattan helped seal the win with a clutch basket under a minute to play to extend the lead to three points. The Knights defense held strong in the closing possessions and kept the Bears off the scoreboard for the 74-70 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Kattan led the offense with 22 points on 9-14 shooting, while Sebastian Pacheco added 16 points and Harrison Dignan chipped in 14.
- Ethan St. Lucia grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while Pacheco picked up eight of his own.
- The Knights now hold a 14-6 advantage in the last 20 matchups against Potsdam.
