Men's Basketball Falls In Overtime, 76-72 To Plattsburgh

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team was defeated by the visiting Plattsburgh Cardinals on Friday night. The Knights were able to force overtime after some clutch shots late in regulation, but were outplayed in the extra period and fell 76-72. Geneseo dropped to 9-11 and 6-7 in the SUNYAC after the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights led by three halfway through the first half on the heels of early three-pointers made by Raymond Grabowski, Harrison Dignan, and Cole Kattan
  • Kattan led both teams with 15 points in the first half after shooting two three-pointers and going 3-3 from the free-throw line.
  • Plattsburgh took their first lead of the game with under four minutes left in the half, but Geneseo was able to answer and took a 42-36 lead into the break. 
  • The Knights gave up the lead with 16:25 left in the game, going down by as much as seven, but two three-pointers and a turn-around jumper by Michael Gentile brought the game to a 56-56 tie with six minutes left. 
  • The Cardinals took a five point lead into the final three minutes of regulation, but the Knights were able to tie the game with 30 seconds left off a big basket from Kattan to force overtime.
  • The teams began the extra period tied at 66, but the Knights were outscored 10-6 and fell to the visiting Cardinals 76-72. 
QUICK FACTS
  • Cole Kattan led the Knights with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Harrison Dignan added another 16 points in the game. 
  • Dignan also added team-highs in assists (6) and steals (3).
  • The game marked the second-straight overtime contest for the Knights, after defeating Buffalo State in extra time on Tuesday night.

The Knights will meet the Potsdam Bears at home tomorrow Saturday, February 4th for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
