BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's track and field team captured their sixth consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship this weekend at Brockport.
DAY 1 -
Nick Andrews highlighted the first day of competition, taking the top spot in the 5000m with a time of 15:04.34. The Knights went to earn three more top eight finishes, with
William Hall finishing third,
Austin Schoen fourth, and
Alex Hillyard sixth. The team of
Dawson Tooker,
Matthew Sheehan,
Stephen Hoare, and
Zach Gauronski took second in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:34.36.
Brett Patmore,
Marshall Testa, and
Drew Alloco combined to earn 10 points in the pole vault, placing fourth, fifth, and eighth, respectively.
After the first day of competition, the Knights sit in second place with 34 points while Cortland is in first with 46.
DAY 2 -
Ezra Ruggles set a meet record in the mile run, finishing in first place at 4:08.39 for the Knights.
Nick Bauman,
Dawson Tooker, and
Alex Hillyard combined to add another 10 points to Ruggles 10, by finishing third, sixth, and eighth, respectively. In the 400m, Geneseo continued to put up big points as
Jacob Miller and
Jason Rappazzo finished first and second with times of 49.20 and 49.51, respectively.
Andrew Kent finished sixth to make it a 21-point event for the Knights. Geneseo put four runners in the top eight in the 800m, with
Stephen Hoare and
Matthew Sheehan finishing less than a second a part from each other in first and second, respectively.
Jack Hislop and
Frank Bubbico took fifth and seventh.
Bryan Jacobs picked up some key points for the Knights in both the 60m hurdles and the 60m dash, by taking third and fourth in the races, respectively.
Lance Jensen led Geneseo to another 10 points by taking first place in the 200m, finishing in 21.81.
Geneseo's most dominant race of the meet came in the 3000m, as they scored 30 points.
Nick Andrews and Ruggles took first and second, while
William Hall,
Ryan Mitchell and
Austin Schoen took fourth through sixth. Andrews and Ruggles were right on each others heels, with Andrews taking first at 8:32.43 and Ruggles in second at 8:32.75. In the 4x400 relay, the Knights earned the top spot with a time of 3:18.21, setting a new meet record. The team of Jensen, Hoare, Kent and Miller teamed up for the record setting relay.
Bryan Jacobs tacked on another 10 points for Geneseo by winning the long jump, with a distance of 7.28m.
The Knights earned first place with a total score of 184 points, knocking off Cortland in second place with 155.5.
