Men's Lacrosse Opens Season With 13-11 Win Over Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team won their first outing of the season on Saturday afternoon, as they earned a hard-fought 13-11 victory over Nazareth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth was able to jump ahead early with a 2-0 lead, but the Knights quickly answered with goals from William McCumiskey and Brady Sullivan to tie it at 2-2. The rest of the quarter saw back and forth action, but the Golden Eagles took a one goal lead at 5-4 into the second quarter.
  • The second quarter saw the offenses slowed, with only 3 goals total, but the Knights were able to tie it up heading to halftime. 
  • Geneseo took its first lead of the game with a goal from McCumiskey in the third quarter. Geneseo kept the momentum going throughout the quarter and took a 9-8 advantage into the final quarter of play.
  • Nazareth regained the lead at the 9:25 mark, and the game went back and forth to the end, but goals by William McCumiskey, Jimmy Atkinson, Christian Marcello Jr. and Owen Ellick in the fourth quarter gave the Knight the extra push late in the game to pick up a victory in their first game of the season.

  • Marcello Jr. led the offensive effort with five goals and one assist, while McCumiskey and Atkinson each chipped in two goals..
  • Wes Ralph was in goal for the Knights and came up with 13 saves to get the win.
